Emily Howell - My Profile

From an early age I have always had a passion for the arts. From playing the recorder, ocarina, hand bells and guitar at school, I decided to take up the clarinet when I was in primary school, then began learning the piano when I was in secondary school. I took Grade 3 within a year of starting the piano and progressed all the way to Grade 8. Alongside piano exams, I studied practical musicianship involving improvisation, musical analysis, singing and all round musicianship skills. I use theoretical approaches to music ensuring students have knowledge and understanding of music theory and I teach the ABRSM theory examinations from grades 1-5.

I achieved the Diploma in Instrumental Teaching from ABRSM specialising in piano teaching to develop my skills and I always seek new methods and techniques to keep my teaching fresh and exciting.

Alongside my music, I have also studied dance. I was a teacher at Stagecoach Theatre Arts for many years, teaching children aged 3-18. I have a BA (Hons) First Class Degree in Dance from Chichester University and during my time there I was in 3Fall Dance Company doing performances in theatres across the South East as well as doing choreography, repertoire and technique workshops in schools and colleges. Through my studies, a lot of my choreography was music inspired and my dissertation looked at the methodologies in dance and music collaborations.
